Summer 2
In Year 4, our Spring 2 term will be packed with exciting subjects and activities! Here’s what we’ll be focusing on across different topics:
English: World Burn Down !
This book follows Carlos, a courageous boy living in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, as he fights to protect his home from the imminent danger of deforestation. This fast-paced adventure is full of friendship, bravery, and powerful messages about the urgent threat of trees being cut down and the need to protect our planet.
As the story unfolds, children will explore Carlos’s journey and, at the end, write their own missing chapter—imagining what happens next in this thrilling tale!
Get ready for an exciting adventure that sparks imagination and raises awareness about saving the Amazon!
Science: Living things and their habitats.
Get ready to become wildlife explorers! The children will be diving into the fascinating world of living things and their habitats. They will begin with a nature walk (or a virtual adventure!) to discover how animals and plants survive in their local environments. The children will be grouping living things in interesting ways, using classification keys like real scientists, and investigating the difference between animals with backbones and those without. They will be comparing flowering and non-flowering plants, spotting local wildlife around school, and organising their findings to show off their scientific thinking. As the unit progresses, the children will be exploring how environmental changes like pollution and deforestation affect different species — and they will be learning how to protect and care for our local habitats. By the end, the children will be creating their own guides and knowledge organisers to summarise all they’ve discovered about the incredible diversity of life around us!
Maths: Money
In this unit, children will learn how to read, write, and work with money using decimals. They will convert between pounds and pence, compare different amounts, and practise estimating costs. They’ll build their skills in adding and subtracting money and apply what they’ve learned to solve real-life money problems, like working out change and budgeting.
History- The Amazon and Brazil
Get ready for an amazing adventure as we explore two very different but fascinating places — bustling London and the wild Amazon rainforest! We’ll kick things off by discovering what makes these regions so special, then dive into London’s busy streets and population, and take a trip along the mighty River Thames. Next, we’ll step into the lush Amazon, meeting incredible plants, animals, and the amazing people who live there sustainably. We’ll compare how London’s city life and the Amazon’s river systems shape their worlds, learn about trading goods, and explore how both places are working hard to protect the planet. By the end, children will be a geography whizzes, ready to create their own awesome knowledge organiser showing what makes London and the Amazon so unique — all while building their skills in maps, climate, sustainability, and so much more!
