Year 3 Autumn 2 Overview

In Year 3, our Autumn 2 term will be filled with inspiring topics and hands-on activities across all our subjects! Here’s what we’ll be focusing on this term:

English: Exploring Moon Man

This term, we’ll be reading Moon Man, a fascinating story that followsMoon Man (2012) - IMDb the adventures of a character who comes to Earth. Our English work will centre around these exciting projects:

  • Creative Writing: We’ll write our own adventure stories inspired by Moon Man, practising how to build suspense and create vivid settings. Each student will develop their writing skills by focusing on using descriptive language to bring their ideas to life.

  • Diary Entries: Imagining themselves as Moon Man, students will write diary entries that reflect the character’s feelings and experiences on Earth. This activity will help them deepen their empathy and understanding of character perspective.

Maths: Multiplication and Division

In Maths, we’ll focus on building strong foundations in multiplication and division. Pupils will use different strategies, such as grouping and arrays, to understand these concepts. We’ll also work on applying these skills to solve real-world problems and sharpen mental maths abilities.

Science: Investigating Friction and Force

In Science, we’re diving into the world of forces! This term, students will investigate friction and how it affects movement. Through hands-on experiments, they’ll explore how different surfaces impact the speed and ease of movement, learning about the effects of friction on everyday objects. We’ll also look at different types of forces, like pushes and pulls, and discuss how these forces help objects move. This unit will be full of practical activities to help students grasp the concepts of force and friction in a fun, engaging way.

Geography: Exploring the World

In Geography, we’ll journey around the UK, discovering different counties, landscapes, and features. Students will learn to identify cities and towns and understand how physical features influence human activity. This unit will encourage a sense of curiosity about the world beyond our local environment.

Design and Technology: Making Tacos

A tasty project awaits us in D.T. as we make tacos! Students will learn about food preparation, hygiene, and the origins of ingredients used in tacos. This practical project will let them apply their knowledge of nutrition while developing basic cooking skills.

Computing: Servers and Switches

In Computing, we’ll explore how information travels by learning about servers and switches. This topic will introduce students to the basics of networks and help them understand how devices connect and communicate in our digital world.

This term in Year 3 will be packed with discovery, creativity, and skill-building. We’re looking forward to seeing students develop in confidence and ability as they explore new topics, build on what they’ve learned, and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them.

PSHE: Friendship and Social Skills

In PSHE, we’ve been focusing on building strong friendships and understanding social situations. The children enjoyed making friendship bracelets as a way to show kindness and appreciation for one another. Alongside this, we’ve been working through various social scenarios, discussing how to handle different situations respectfully and empathetically. These activities help students develop important skills for resolving conflicts, supporting each other, and building positive relationships.
